For the professional, affluent, wealthy and prominent, the challenges of living in recovery with lives intact are important considerations in tailoring effective treatment protocols and post-treatment success. The missing ingredient in treatment is a thorough understanding of the clinical needs of these patients, who are often viewed as wanting special considerations by treatment centers. We have written extensively about better ways to improve treatment of these population groups by following many of the positive recovery and relapse prevention strategies for physicians and pilots. Over the years, recovery rates overall have not improved significantly. We think this can be changed by meeting the clinical needs of the affluent in supportive treatment settings and structured post-treatment plans.
